Bike Theft CCTV Review Automation

Department: British Transport Police

Problem to Solve

British Transport Police cannot investigate bike thefts where bikes have been left for more than two hours, as reviewing hours of CCTV footage is too time-consuming. Thousands of bikes are stolen from stations each year, but officers lack time to review footage to find the exact theft window.

Proposed Solution

Use AI with a bifurcation method: get users to report the time range when their bike was stolen, then use computer vision to automatically find when the bike was present. First frame has bike, last frame doesn't. Halve the time and check if bike is present, repeatedly narrowing the range until the exact theft moment is identified. Output the relevant video clip for police review, dramatically reducing CCTV review time from hours to seconds.
